What does God want from us Muslims? Somebody ask me. I did not have an answer for him at that time. So I had to do some research. The Amazing thing about the Quran, it answers every question, resolved every argument, and set the record straight. But only for those, who have an open mind.
Although the answer it gives may not go down well with our Ego, it does provide the solution to every problem that the mind can think of. As for the question of what Allah wants from us, there is 89 Ayah in the Quran that has Ya Ayyuhal ladzi na Amanu or O you who believed. Whether you are a cleaner, laborer, CEO, or even a King if you believe in the Quran here is what Allah wants from us.
Let’s be honest, there is not much work being done to make the Quran relevant to our lives. People who do not have the authority to speak about Islam are listened to. While our scholars are tongue-tied, and just regurgitating the works of past scholars. Very little is being done, to demonstrate that the Quran is a solution to our everyday problem.
They are so few people who can relate the Quran to our daily lives. How do we produce, people who can present the Quran in an inspiring manner? We have no shortage of Qari who can present the Quran as melodious sound waves. But in terms of meaning, and what the Quran requires from us we are still way behind.
So here is a table, of What Allah expected from people who claim they have iman. Hope it can help you, in your quest for meaning in this life my friend.
Compilation of Ayah by Muhammad Ilyas
The list is linked to Tafseer by Ibnu Katsir for each ayah just so that it is not taken out of context.
Until today, there is only tafsir about these Ayahs from the Islamic Scholars’ point of view and from Fiqh’s perspective. I wonder if say a Muslim doctor, engineer, or pilot looking at these Ayat would it open new insights into guidance by the Quran.
Having said that our Muslim scholars do a lot of tremendous work, but it is not highlighted, because Islamic scholars don’t do things for fame and fortune. So what takes center stage is the constant bickering of issues that either has been resolved centuries ago or issues that will continue until the end of time.
The Quran is timeless and will never change. Until today, there is only tafsir about these Ayahs from the Islamic theologian’s point of view. I wonder if say a Muslim doctor, engineer, or pilot looking at these Ayat would it open new insights into guidance by the Quran.
The Quran is timeless and will never change. But how we live our lives has changed, there is a myriad of new knowledge and skills discovered. These new discoveries and skills have not been put under the lens of the Quran in a manner the average person can understand.
