Malaysia – Bigo Live, the leading global live streaming platform, today
announced ‘Tilawah Bersama Bigo’, a Quran recitation competition and fundraising campaign, in support of Islamic Relief Malaysia’s COVID Emergency Appeal Food Aid.
‘Tilawah Bersama Bigo’ is part of Bigo Live’s wider efforts in Malaysia to help Malaysians celebrate the Eid al-Fitr holidays while also giving back to the community during this extended period of the movement control order (MCO).
The week-long competition will be broadcasted live on the Bigo Live app (BIGO ID: MY.Eventroom) with the preliminary rounds held between 24 May and 28 May from 8:30pm – 12am MYT and the finals held from 29 May to 30 May from 9pm – 10pm MYT.
Bigo Live will be partnering with local Malaysian influencer Farhatul Fairuzah, who is also a Bigo Live broadcaster and winner of the 2019 International Al-Quran Recitation. She will be gracing the finals of the competition as adjudicator.
“With COVID-19 affecting how the Muslim community in Malaysia is able to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, having this competition is a welcome opportunity to foster camaraderie and bring us together in these trying times. “
“Eid al-Fitr is a time where bonds are strengthened and Bigo Live has not only made this possible, but it has also enabled us to raise money for a great cause. I encourage my Muslim brothers and sisters and the wider Malaysian community to consider tuning in to this event and contributing to a cause greater than themselves,” said Farhatul Fairuzah.
Registrations are currently open, and anyone aged 18 and above can participate in the competition by registering via this link. Shortlisted participants will stand a chance to win cash prizes ranging from RM1,000 to RM3,000 in the finals.
Throughout the livestream competition, viewers will be able to vote for their favourite participants through free voting tickets and virtual gifting. All proceeds received from the competition will be donated to Islamic Relief Malaysia’s COVID Emergency Appeal Food Aid, which will aid Malaysian beneficiaries struggling to cope with the aftereffects of the COVID-19
pandemic as well as the resulting lockdowns.
On top of which, Bigo Live will also be pledging to donate RM4,000 to Islamic Relief Malaysia.
“Islamic Relief Malaysia is happy to collaborate with Bigo Live on this campaign. During Ramadan, every Muslim is obliged to give zakat fitrah (religious tithe) to the poor. Zakat symbolises Islamic social justice, and in this spirit, we hope that our Muslim brothers and sisters and the wider Malaysian community would consider giving a little extra this year to aid struggling families due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“Bigo Live has enabled Malaysians to extend a helping hand and display great generosity via their livestreaming platform – going beyond entertainment and using online content for a good cause,” said Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin, Chief Executive Officer, Islamic Relief Malaysia.
Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, Bigo Live has launched a series of curated content by broadcasters around the world that aims to connect and give back to different communities during these trying times. This includes hosting popular Malaysian YouTuber and influencer Isa Isarb (BIGO ID: isaisarb), as well as hosting popular Malaysian actor-singer Nazim Othman
(BIGO ID: nazimothman) and Baby Shima (BIGO ID: babyshimaofficia) .
