The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) is held on the 7th to the 9th of September, 2022 in Kuala Lumpur. It is an annual event that highlights the various products and services related to the country’s halal agenda. It has been held annually since 2004, and it helps over a thousand companies from the country as well as other countries to expand their operations.
This year, MIHAS once again focused on various segments in the country’s Halal industry consisting of several sectors including food & beverages, cosmetics and personal care products, pharmaceuticals and decent fashions. Focus is also given on Shariah-compliant services such as Islamic finance, education, Muslim friendly tourism, e-commerce and the latest segment which is Islamic arts and craft.
Pegged as the world’s largest Halal trade event, MIHAS 2022 which carries the theme “Diversifying Halal Possibilities” is on target to achieve RM1.9 billion in sales and as such play its part in increasing the number of Malaysian MSMEs expanding their footprint into the global Halal market. Currently, more than 8,000 companies in Malaysia are recognized and certified as Halal by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
Malaysia produces a large amount of halal goods, where in 2023, the export of halal goods increased by 19 percent to RM36.30billion compared to the RM30 billion recorded in the previous year.
MIHAS 2022 is organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), under the patronage of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. More than 1,200 exhibition booths were available, including over 300 exhibition booths from international companies from 24 countries, and the balance to local companies. To date, the MIHAS program has connected over 400 buyers from 46 countries with over 500 Malaysian exporters.
